Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is Shared Voices Advocacy?
Shared Voices Advocacy is an independent advocacy service supporting families navigating the special education process. Whether you're preparing for an ARD/IEP/504 meeting, reviewing evaluation results, or simply trying to understand your child's rights, I offer grounded, experience-based guidance rooted in both professional and personal insight.
-
Who do you work with?
I primarily support parents and caregivers of students in public schools, especially those navigating special education or accommodations through a 504 plan. My services are designed for families seeking clarity, empowerment, and partnership as they advocate for their child's needs.
-
Do you only work with families in Texas?
Not at all! While I’m based in Texas and have extensive experience in the state’s systems, I also support families in other states. Education laws differ slightly by state, but the heart of advocacy — helping families understand their rights and how to navigate the system — remains the same. Indiana is another area I’m especially familiar with.
-
Are you a lawyer?
No, I’m not a lawyer and do not provide legal advice. I’m a licensed School Psychologist with over 15 years of experience in education. My role is to help interpret documents, explain processes, prepare for meetings, and help you feel confident and informed every step of the way.
-
What makes Shared Voices Advocacy different?
I bring the unique perspective of having been both a School Psychologist and a parent navigating the system myself. My approach is collaborative, not combative — focused on creating bridges between families and schools rather than walls. I believe in public education, and I believe in holding systems accountable to support every child.
-
Do you attend meetings with families?
Yes! I offer virtual attendance at ARD/IEP/504 meetings to provide real-time support. I also offer meeting prep services to help you feel ready to advocate clearly and effectively.
I will consider in-person attendance at meetings on a case by case basis.
-
How do I get started?
You can start by booking a free 20-minute intro call. It’s a chance for us to talk about your current situation and how I might be able to support you. From there, we’ll build a plan that works for your family.
-
What are your rates?
I offer transparent, flat-rate pricing for document review, meeting prep, virtual meeting attendance, and ongoing support. You can find details on the Services page.
-
Can you work with my school or district directly?
While I primarily support families, I welcome opportunities to collaborate with school teams when it aligns with the student’s best interest. I’m also open to consulting directly with districts or school staff around inclusive practices and family partnerships.
